Lord Tom Sawyer
Life Peer, Chancellor of the University of Teesside and businessman, is our Honorary Chairman.
Tom is an experienced leader, having been the chairman and board member of several companies in the private public and financial sectors. He is currently on the board of major financial and legal businesses where he specialises in value based leadership development and stakeholder involvement.
Tom is well known for his role in building the public service Trade Union Unison where he was the Deputy General Secretary and for his work with Tony Blair and Gordon Brown in modernising the Labour Party.
Tom was the General Secretary of the Labour Party from 1994 to 1998, leading a team of dedicated staff to run what was considered at the time to be the most effective election machine in the history of British politics.
Tom was made a life Peer for political services in 1998.
Tom has been The Chancellor of the University of Teesside since 2004 and a visiting professor at Cranfield University School of Management for over 10 years.
